Surfrider San Diego’s 13th Annual Art Gala Helps Keep Our Coast Beautiful

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation proudly presents the 13th Annual Art Gala on Friday, May 10th from 6 to 10 p.m. at Paradise Point Resort and Spa, 1404 Vacation Road San Diego, CA 92109.

The chapter’s annual Art Gala celebrates ocean advocacy while showcasing artists and raising funds for local campaigns, programs and initiatives. From featured artworks to interactive art projects, different Surfrider campaigns will be highlighted at the event to incorporate an awareness aspect to the evening.

Core Volunteer and San Diego public school art teacher, Shauna Stueve, designed an interactive art project to draw attention to the chapter’s Rise Above Plastics Campaign. Shauna comments on the importance of awareness, “One of my goals as an educator is to teach the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. At this year’s Art Gala, the
interactive art piece promotes just that and my students helped to save hundreds of plastic bags from a landfill to design something amazing. At the event, guests will have an opportunity to contribute to the project and create a masterpiece.”

The 13th Annual Art Gala will also honor this year’s chapter award winners for their hard work and service to the Surfrider Foundation’s mission of protecting our oceans, waves and beaches. This year’s award winners are Paradise Point Resort and Spa, Tom Cook and Olivia Bui.

“Being a San Diego native, the protection of our coastline has always been important to me,” explains Art Gala Coordinator, Olivia Bui. “The Surfrider Foundation, San Diego County Chapter is an integral part of protecting our ocean and I am humbled by their recognition for my involvement in the Art Gala.”

San Diego radio personality, Madison, from KPRi 102.1 FM will be the emcee at the event.

The 21+ event includes delicious food from Jimbo’s Naturally and Paradise Point Resort and Spa, wine from Barefoot Wine and beer from Stone Brewing Company. In addition, this year’s gala will feature musical guests Brett Dennen, who will be featured on KPRi’s “My Turn” this Sunday, April 28th at 6pm, and local musician Casey Turner.
